Citroen Mehari
Renault Plein Air
Trabant Tramp
I’d daily the Trabant (because everyone needs a litle totilatarian oppression in their life), track the Mehari (I’m sure there’s some hop up parts for a 2CV motor out there somewhere), and burn the Plein Air (cool name, but a pretty unspectacular looking fun car, IMO).
How about you, Oppo?

1) Pick the two most valuable
2) Sell them
3) Buy a VW Thing, because it’s cooler (though this color gives it a bit of a ‘Wehrmacht’ feel)

I left the Thing off the list because I wanted the cars in question to be models never avaliable in the United States. The Thing was originally on the list but I decided to cut it in favor of the Renault.

Daily either the Mehari or the Plein Air depending on whether I feel like Chuck Heston or there are light-sensitive weirdos around.
Track the Trabbi until it burns, then track whichever was left from step #1.
Anybody saying DD the Trabbi had better plan on making adjustable seats, because you’re going to be sore every morning otherwise.

DD Citroen
Track the Trabi, because transverse FWD and light weight basically make it an East German Mini
Burn the Plen Air

The Mehari was only virtually never available in the US. There was a US spec version with different headlights imported in a few hundred.
One model year only.

GIS’d “renault 4 rally car”. Decided to GIS “pontiac fiero rally car” while I was at it because of reasons. Found this! (Video owner disabled playback on external sites.)
Holy crap!

This reminds me of that ever so ‘90s movie Backdraft. In a parole hearing you get the following conversation between the firebug up for parole, and the fire investigator asking him a question.
This is how I feel about these cars.
Donald : What about the world, Ronald? What would you like to do to the whole world? Ronald Bartel : Burn it all.

Fun fact: companies which sell nowadays new ABS body parts for the Méhari sell also the US spec front and bonnet - which means you can build yourself a brand-new US spec one.

I don’t dislike the Renault 4 at all – particularly the ones with the early grille, as shown – but I find the “Plein Air” truly hideous.
Having said that, compared with a Renault Rodéo the Plein Air attains BB levels of heart-stopping attractiveness.
(Note for the youths around these here parts: BB as in
Bardot, Brigitte,
not as in 365

or Buchmann’s

The Trabant is a product of a failed regime. It sucked in all the ways possible. It is not a cute underdog. It does not deserve sympathy. It symbolises repression and as such it deserves to burn and not glorified.

DD the Renault (it’s better at being a car)
Track the Mehari (death-defying openness combined with comedy suspension travel)
Burn the Trabi (and choke to death on the toxic smoke from the Duroplast)

Daily the Renault, track the Citroën and burn the Trabbie.
However due to its duroplast construction, the Trabant would probably survive the burning and end up like this:

Thank you for gracing my life with the awareness of the Shellette. I did not know it existed until now, and I am a better man for being aware of it.
